This was stressed by the President during his visit to Camp Gen. Macario C. Peralta, Jr. in Jamindan town to talk to the spearhead troopers of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division last Aug. 5.

“The center will cater tothose who are willing to undergo rehabilitation,” Duterte said, noting that some of the 600,000 self-confessed addicts maybe beyond help.

“I order you to provide space.  Mga isang kanto lang dyan. (A small corner in the camp),” he added.

The President said during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the government plans to use military camps as drug rehabilitation centers in view of the campaign against illegal drugs.

The 3ID camp is the third largest military camp in the country spanning over 33,310 hectares and has been declared a military reservation through Presidential Proclamation No. 67 issued in  1962 byPres. Diosdado Macapagal.

It boasts of a wildlife sanctuary, five waterfalls and grotto as well as shrine of the blessed Virgin Mary located at a hilltop where one can enjoy the mountain view as far as Dumalag town of the province.

The sprawling camp covers the municipalities of Jamindan and Tapaz of Capiz province and Lambunao town in Iloilo and is inhabited by various communities of indigenous people. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
