Day Care Pupils Learn Life-saving Skills PDF Print E-mail
Written by Vincent Bigcas
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (July 29) – Seventy day care pupils at the National Child Development Center (NCDC) in Cuartero town playfully participated in a “duck, cover and hold” earthquake simulation activity July 27 in what seemed to be an unusual day for the toddlers’ learning experience.

The pre-schoolers, along with their mothers and or nannies, were also taught on making preparations and on post-tremor safety tips.

Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Information Center Manager Jemin Guillermo has been invited to talk about earthquake preparedness with the children as an offshoot of a recently concluded barangay forum in the municipality.

She virtually turned as a story teller during the lecture that was followed by the earthquake exercise.

The activity was complemented with a fire hose demonstration in suppressing fire by the Bureau of Fire Protection’s mascot characters at the town plaza, a few meters from the center.

Cuartero town Public Information Officer Loida Borbon said that the activity was in time with the National Disaster Consciousness Month celebration.

She added that NCDC caters to 0 to 4 years old kids and is managed by the local government unit thru the center’s Community Development Teacher Lilibeth Salomeo who has been trained on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD).

A P2-million grant for the building and facilities realized the center which has been a project under the ECCD of the national government.

During regular class days, the pupils are divided into morning and afternoon sessions. (JSC/AAL/PIA6 Capiz)
