“There is a hero within us waiting to be awakened. A hero that does not need a baptism of death to be recognized as such,” Tanco stressed, adding that collective actions from every member of the community can bring change for development.

The provincial chief executive was joined during the celebration by 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) commander Brig. Gen. Harold Cabreros, Capiz 1st District Cong. and governor – elect Antonio Del Rosario’s senior staff officer Melanie Arancillo, among others.

The hour-long celebration, that also included cultural performances by the Silak Dance Company of Filamer Christian University, Capiz State University – Roxas City main campus chorale and a private dance academy, capped with the release of 118 doves which symbolizes

symbolizes liberation and freedom from influence and captivity.

A flag-raising and wreathlaying at Dr. Jose Rizal Monument kicked off the celebration that has the theme “Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong.”

The celebration serves as a reminder to every Filipino of the heroes’ gallantry that lead to the declaration of Philippine Independence 118 years ago, Tanco noted. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
