Capiceņos Urged to Avail Free Maintenance Meds PDF Print E-mail
DOH – Capiz Public Information Officer Joeffry Espiritu said that interested patients need to consult the nearest RHU or primary health facility to register with the program.

“The program covers all qualified patients,” Espiritu stressed, adding that the maintenance medicines were initially offered free to poor patients included in the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s National Housing Targeting System list until it was expanded to cover all those needing the hypertension and diabetes control drugs.

Espiritu noted that hypertension and diabetes patients seeking consultation in private health facilities may also join the Hypertension and Diabetes Club to avail also of free maintenance medicines.

DOH Sec. Janette Garin has urged RHUs in the province to organize the club during the recent turnover of health equipment package on Tamang Serbisyo Para sa Kalusugan ng Pamilya (TSeKaP) that include, among others, digital blood pressure apparatus and glucometer sets for RHUs and Barangay Health Stations.

The DOH drugs for hypertension are Losartan, Amlodipine and Metroprolol while for diabetes is Metformin.

“Another drug for diabetes patients is currently being bidded by the government and it will also be free for those qualified that need it,” she said in Hiligaynon at the Capiz Gym here.

DOH is also proposing the giving of  free insulin medicine to qualified poor patients, she added.

The program is in line with the DOH goal of bringing the Universal Health Care Program or “Kalusugang Pangkalahatan” health agenda of Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III’s administration to all. (JCM/AAL/PIA6 Capiz)
