Rice Stock Enough Even During El Niņo PDF Print E-mail
Provincial Manager Benilda Fidel of the National Food Authority here said that the rice buffer of the agency is enough for the daily needs requirement of the population here.

As of January 5, NFA Capiz rice stock totaled 126,025 bags to include the 50,999 bags of imported rice and 115,424 bags of palay.

She said that the rice stock is equivalent to 22 days sufficiency based on the 5,760 bags daily requirement here.

“Aside from the NFA stock, there are also rice stocks in the households, traders and millers,” Fidel said.

In anticipation of the effects of El Niño on the agriculture sector, the food agency also stepped up its palay procurement activities to have a stable supply of rice.

As  of December 2015 record,  Fidel said NFA Capiz was able to buy 110,433 bags of palay from farmer’s organizations and individual farmers and they are targeting to buy 2,000 bags of palay this January.

Fidel  assured farmers that the government has enough funds for the buying of palay harvests. (JCM/JBG/PIA6)
