Barangay Execs, Lupon Train on Women, Children Laws PDF Print E-mail
In this regard, Provincial Director Clyne Deocampo of DILG Capiz disclosed that the training for barangay captains and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa is being encouraged as part of the gender and development program.

Recently, the barangay captains and lupong tagapamayapa members from selected towns in Capiz underwent a 3-day Gender-Sensitive, Child-Friendly training of the DILG in partnership with the European Union Philippines Justice Support Program II.

Deocampo said that the training aims to capacitate and enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants who are among the front line service providers in the barangay especially on dealing with women and children’s protection and welfare.

Given focus during the sessions were on the law on Katarungang Pambarangay, Laws on Children, particularly Republic Act 7610, Presidential Decree 603, Convention on the Rights of the Child, Children in Conflict with the Law, Restorative Justice.

Also given focus were the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children’s Act, Magna Carta of Women, Human Rights Concepts and Principles and mediation techniques and procedures.

The participant-barangay captains said that the training is very useful in the handling of issues related to women and children in their barangays.

“We are confronted with many concerns in our barangays especially on violence against women and we need to be updated on the applicable laws so that we can also resolve the cases that are within our jurisdiction,” they said.

In attendance during the training were the barangay captains and Lupon members from the selected barangays in President Roxas, Cuartero, Mambusao, Jamindan, Dumalag and Dumarao. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
