Broadcasters Adopt 2-Hectare ‘Greening Site’ PDF Print E-mail
KBP – Capiz chapter chairperson Rexam Laguda said that the area will be the venue of the 2015 Oplan Broadcastreeing on August 15 which will be participated in by broadcasters, students, government employees and various groups.

“About 1,000 narra ang mahogany seedlings will be planted during the early morning activity,” noted Laguda.

PENRO will provide tree seedlings.

The MOA was realized a year after Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – 6 D    irector Jim Sampulna offered the officers and members of KBP to adopt an area for reforestation.

Originally, the offer was to adopt an area for mangrove re-greening.

The proposal was conveyed Sampulna before local tri-media practitioners during a media interaction about climate change and other environment – related issues and concerns last May 2014 here.

It was as offshoot of the broadcasters active involvement in previous mangrove tree planting activities dubbed “Broadcastreeing” which has planted about 7,500 propagules at Cadimahan River and Palina Greenbelt Ecopark in Barangays Tanque and Cagay, here, respectively, and Barangay Intongcan in Pontevedra town.

Broadcastreeing is a tie-up project of KBP and DILG to help realize the 2011 to 2016 National Greening Program target of about 1.5 billion trees planted in an estimated 1.5 million hectares of lands in public domain. (JCM/PIA 6 Capiz/A. Lumaque)
