Forum Theater Depicts Child Protection, Teen Sexuality
Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Alphonsus Tesoro disclosed that the forum theater staged by the Dagway Sigmahanon Incorporated in the different towns and city in Capiz including in some areas in Northern part of Iloilo depicts the current issues and concerns affecting children.
He said that the forum theater was in partnership with the provincial government of Capiz and United Nations Children’s Fund.
Tesoro said that given focus during the play were on child protection for physical and verbal and other forms of abuses as well as teen sexuality in the 'after Yolanda' context.
The pilot public performance of said group was staged at the provincial capitol’s Hall of Governors which was attended by students, youth, employees, officials and other stakeholders.
Tesoro said that aside from Roxas City, the forum theater was likewise performed in other towns here, namely in Ivisan, Jamindan, Panitan, Pilar, Pres. Roxas, Panay, Maayon and Pontevedra,
In Iloilo province, the group presented the play in Estancia, Sara and Concepcion towns.
Provincial Administrator lawyer Jose Villanueva, who is also the Gender and Development Provincial Focal Point System, said that the there is a pressing need to educate the youth and children especially in the midst of advanced technology now.
Villanueva, during the culminating activity where another performance was staged at the provincial capitol here, said that the province has been taking steps to inform and educate the children by establishing teen centers and capacitating the youth through peer counseling training.
He also thanked the UNICEF and Dagway Sigmahanon Foundation for partnering with the province here through said activity. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
