PhilMech director Rex Bingabing said during a media interaction April 14 said that the project will be completed in two months time.

"Bigger cables were used in the project to carry passengers aside from commodities," he stressed.

The ATS in Maayon town is in addition to the recently turned over P6.4-million tramline project to the Barangay Councils of Daan Norte and Daan Sur in Tapaz town in time with the 8th Farmers and Fisherfolks Day.

Based on PhilMech, there are more than 120 ATS in the country that include 14 units in the region.

The project is put up by DA, PhilMech and partner LGUs as an an alternative transport system used by farmers in hauling agricultural inputs and products in areas isolated from road network because of ravines, rivers and dense vegetation.

It is a system of steel cables and pulleys that links the production area to the nearest access road for the transport of agricultural products.

ATS in Maayon was through the initiative of Capiz Cong. Antonio Del Rosario who tapped concerned agricultural officials for the realization of the post-harvest facility. (JCM/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
