Maayon Town Celebrates 60th Charter Anniversary PDF Print E-mail
Town officials, led by mayor Wilfredo E. Borres, kicked off the celebration with a holy mass that was followed by a caravan. a grand opening program, free circumcision as well as blood donation and an exhibit.

Maayon councilor Syvil Grace Dueñas said that the activities for the celebration included Farmers Day and One-Stop-Shop of Government Services, essay and painting contests, mass wedding, playground demonstration and variety show at the plaza.

Highlights of the Charter Day included a grand charter parade, thanksgiving mass, wreath laying ceremony, street dance competition, wet party, fire dancing exhibition and fireworks display.

Maayon became a town on March 30, 1955 through Republic Act No. 1203 signed by Pres. Ramon Magsaysay in a ceremony held in Malacañang that was well attended by large delegation from the province.

The township was steered by then Capiz First District Representative Carmen Dinglasan Consing and Senator Justiniano S. Montaño who filed the measure in the lower chamber of the Congress and pushed its way for approval in the Senate, respectively.

The municipality, about 30-kilometers southeast of Roxas City, is an agricultural landlocked area which also boasts of its rich minerals like cooper, gold, iron, manganese, guano and limestone aside from the scenic natural wonders and the sweet charm and charisma of the people. (JCM/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
