Turnover of 1st Capiz Tramline Set March 30 PDF Print E-mail
Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia Dela Cruz said over Pag-ulikid local community television channel blocktime program that the province’s first ever tramline can deliver a maximum load of 300 kilograms from Daan Sur to its drop off point in a main road at Barangay Roxas Otso spanning the distance of about 1.2 – kilometer in just five minutes only.

Traditionally, agricultural products like root crops, rice, corn and livestock are manually transported for a number of days because of the distance and terrain from the upland barangays to Roxas Otso.

She added that “a scenic view” of the steel cage mechanically attached to the cable over about combined height of four full-grown coconuts was observed during the initial run of the project.

The tramline is a joint undertaking of the Department of Agriculture through Philippine Center for Post harvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) and the Capiz provincial government who added a P2-million budget for the project to have a much bigger and stronger cables and posts as well as carriage.

A signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Barangay Councils and the provincial government will be conducted during the turnover ceremony to specify the responsibilities and obligations of the parties, among others.

The beneficiaries will be required to come up with a tramline rate as a corresponding fee per kilo will be charged in the transportation of the products from more than a hundred agricultural farmlands in the area.

Dela Cruz stressed that the Office of the Agriculturist (OPA) will request for a periodic inspection of the system by PhilMech and conduct a training of a tramline operator for the proper handling and maintenance of the project.

The post – harvest facility project is part of the multi-million agriculture projects in the province committed by Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III during his first presidential visit to Capiz last July 2011. (JCM/AAL-PIA6 Capiz)
