“These will provide recipients food for one week so that they can begin to think about rebuilding their homes and starting their livelihood,” said Department of the Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas.

Roxas along with some provincial and Roxas City government officials met with WFP – USA chairman Hunter Biden and his team at the airport here.

The rice packs are part of the estimated 10,000 metric tons of rice that will be distributed in various parts of the country.

The DILG Secretary also disclosed that nutritional packs will be given to 16,000 children with ages six months to five years old provincewide.
“Nutritional packs will include high energy biscuits which will supplement the daily minerals and vitamins requirement of the children to boost their immune system against any diseases,” noted Roxas.

WFP is among the various international organizations and United Nations agencies who helped Capiceños and other typhoon victims in the Visayas region in the emergency and response as well as in the ongoing early recovery and reconstruction stage.

Aside from the foreign aid, local government units assistance and donations from various private groups and individuals, the national government has also distributed more than 500,000 relief packs to Yolanda victims in the region as of Dec. 6.

Another three rounds of national government aid composed of food packs, shelter kits and food-for-work are being arranged by concerned government agencies for immediate distribution and implementation in Yolanda – hit areas. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
