NGCPs 'Balik Eskwela' Helps Capiceo Pupils PDF Print E-mail
Written by Vincent Bigcas
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (June 15) -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) distributed 400 school bags with notebooks and pencils last June 13 at the Antonio Belo Memorial Elementary School (ABMES) in Barangay Timpas in Panit-an town.

The NGCP initiative will also be extended to Lacaron and Matagnop Elementary Schools in the municipality of Dao.

“Priority of the school supplies are the host communities with NGCP installations because we consider the residents in these areas as partners in maintaining our transmission lines,” said NGCP-Visayas corporate communications and public affairs officer Elmer Cruz.

NGCP coordinated with the Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) in the selection of Balik Eskwela recipient schools.

Cruz said 11 schools in the island of Panay have been identified for NGCP’s Balik Eswkela to give pupils opportunities to learn and maximize their potential.

Each bag contains pencils and specially designed notebooks that come with reminders to protect transmission lines to avoid unscheduled power outages.

During the program, newly-elected Panit-an Vice-mayor Symor Diaz and ABMES Principal Gerardo Casugbo thanked NGCP officials for the assistance which formed part of the school’s belated Brigada Eskwela activities.

ABMES has been a consistent regional and national Brigada Eskwela Awardee since 2010.

NGCP officials who graced the simple turn over and distribution ceremony were Corporate Affairs department head Nelson Cabangon, Visayas Operations and Maintenance head Gildo Listano, Panay Operations and Maintenance head Rey Jaleco and consultant Pedrito Baculio, among others.
