Feeding Program Boosts Pupilsí Performance PDF Print E-mail
Feeding school children with nutritious food daily enticed them to go to school without fail, said Nelida Laysa, principal of Eusebio Villareal Memorial Elementary School (EVMES) in Mambusao town.

“For three years now, we have zero dropout rate and we are certain that we can maintain this until the school year ends,” Laysa said.

Laysa said the improvement in the pupils’ performance — with the aid of a feeding program and remedial classes — is shown in the results of the National Achievement Test administered last year.

The rating of EVMES in the Mambusao East District soared from 59.38 percent in 2011 to 81.78 percent in 2012.

A complementary feeding program will again be implemented in the school on the first week of July this year right after the identification of malnourished pupils.

To sustain the feeding program, the school has allotted more or less P60,000 or P3,000 a month for it, Laysa said.

The parents of the pupils also helped by preparing food, while others gave donations in kind, she said.

Sixty percent of the pupils benefiting from the program were beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. (PNA)
