Capiz All Set for Earth Day
“Philippine and Capiz folk dances depicting plants and animals will be performed during the show,” said Provincial Tourism and
Cultural Affairs Officer Alphonsus Tesoro.
The Saot Capiz Performing Arts composed of Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion’s Sarayawan Dance Company, Filamer Christian University
(FCU) Silak Dance Company and other performing groups will perform the folk dances.
“A video showing on a particular topic about environment protection will be also included in the presentation,” Tesoro noted.
Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr., who presided the Earth Day preparatory meeting last April 18, said that he will issue a memorandum directing all provincial government offices to turn off all airconditioning units from 8:00am to 9:00am on April 22 onwards.
The chief provincial executive is also set to address provincial government and some national government employees during the Monday’s
flag raising ceremony in front of the Provincial Capitol here.
The ceremony will be followed by a motorcade along the major thoroughfares of the city.
The Day is embodied in an ordinance authored by Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation President Zoe Maria Felipe Herrera enacted last
year which declares April 22 of every year as Earth Day in Capiz.
Through the ordinance, Capiceños will be reminded of their responsibilities to take care of Mother Earth amid the threat of global warming brought by the effects of solid waste generation, air and water pollution, mining and illegal logging, among others. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
