Capiz NFA Intensifies Palay Procurement to Ensure Rice Sufficiency PDF Print E-mail
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (March 19) -- Two mobile teams are being readied by the National Food Authority for its palay mobile procurement activities. Capiz NFA Information Officer Rose Adalecio said they have already formed their two mobile procurement teams for the first and second district, respectively to directly buy palay produced by the farmers here.

She said that they are now closely coordinating with the different municipal, mayors and municipal agriculturists as part of the campaign to farmers to sell their produce to the government.

Andalecio added that linkages with the Department of Agrarian Reform and the National Irrigation Administration, including the different farmer’s organizations are also being strengthened.

She explained that the intensified local procurement activity is part of the initiatives being instituted by the national government towards zero rice importation.

“Our massive palay procurement is in response to the call of the Department of Agriculture to make this country sufficient on staple food by the end of this year,” Andalecio said.

She said that at present, grains businessmen buy palay at P12.00 to P13.50 per kilogram compared to the government that gives additional incentives to farmers such as delivery fee, drying fee and cooperative development incentive fee.

On the other hand, Andalecio assured Capiceños of sufficient supply of rice revealing that as of March 7, Capiz has a rice inventory of 531,500 bags of rice which could last for 97.24 days. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
