Pre-Sinadya sa Halaran Activities to Perk Up Fest
ROXAS City (Dec 5)— Several pre-Sinadya sa Halaran activities are set to enliven Capiz's annual cultural and religious extravaganza.
The festival will formally kick off on December 6, with highlights on December 8.
Among the pre-festival activities are a program featuring actor Piolo Pascual at the Villareal Stadium on December 1 and the Milo Basketball National Tournament on December 2, said Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, who co-chairs the festival along with Mayor Angel Alan Celino, Gov. Victor Tanco and Councilor Emmanuel Billones Jr.
A mass wedding will be held at the Roxas City Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral on December 3, while the Fiesta Cup basketball tournament, sponsored by Celino, will be held on December 3–6.
The basketball tournament, which will be participated by colleges and universities in Western Visayas, will be held in cooperation with the Capiz and Roxas City Athletic Association of Schools and Universities, Dadivas said.
Capiceños will hold this year's Sinadya sa Halaran in a simple manner, focusing more on the role of the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, their patroness, in their lives.
Dadivas urged Capiceños to take into account the essence of the celebration — sharing and thanksgiving to the Lord Almighty through the Virgin Mary.
This year's celebration will open on December 6 with a Thanksgiving Mass, 8 a.m., at the Roxas City Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral. A simultaneous flag-raising by the different barangays will follow.
A street dancing at the city plaza and the opening of the Department of Trade and Industry's SME Fair and Tiangge sa Paskua will be held at 10 a.m.
At 1:30 p.m., there will be a drum and lyre competition at the city plaza, to be followed by the Sadsad sa Plaza.
The matinee show of the Damgo sa Tag-init, a Multi-Visayan Theatre Production of a Shakespearean classic, follows at the Capiz Gym, 3:30 p.m.
The Seafood Fair and Christmas Village at the city plaza will be opened at 6 p.m., while the gala show of the Damgo sa Tag-init will be staged at 7 p.m.
