Capiz To Host WVisayas AIDS Congress PDF Print E-mail
Provincial Health Office Medical Specialist Evelyn Bolido said the province is now ready to host this year’s big event which will gather 200 participants from the different provinces in the region.

Bolido said the provincial and Roxas City Health Offices as well as the "Capiz Shells" which is a group of gays in Capiz will host the congress here.

She said that the activity, which will kick off with a motorcade in the afternoon of October 29, will have Department of Health Assistant Secretary Pauline Jean Ubial as the keynote speaker for the gathering of health workers and People Living with HIV (PLHIV) here.

Bolido said Capiz Governor Victor Tanco will welcome the guests and participants, while Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, who will represent Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino, will do the same in behalf of the city.

She added that the Regional AIDS Congress is anchored on the theme “Working together in sustaining HIV and AIDS initiatives in Western Visayas."

The congress aims to harmonize and scale up strategies on HIV prevention, treatment, care and support through local partnerships and community mobilization to provide quality HIV/AIDS services in Western Visayas, she said.

Bolido also pointed out that with such gathering, discrimination against persons living with HIV will be avoided and the public will be given awareness about the different issues and concerns affecting said persons.

“We want the PLHIV to live a normal life and the community can help them to attain this goal through proper care and support,” she said, revealing that as of April this year, Capiz has 21 PLHIV. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
