Red Cross Spearheads Int'l Humanitarian Law Month Celeb in Capiz PDF Print E-mail
The activities are in line with the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month celebration this August with the theme, “Itaguyod ang IHL: Sibilyan Pangalagaan.”

PRC-Capiz Administrator Nelia B. Cartujano said college students will participate in the debate while secondary students of private and public schools may join the impromptu speaking.

“There was also a symposium on IHL laws on August 13,” she noted.

Commission on Human Rights (CHR-6) Director David Bermudo, lawyer, was guest and speaker of the symposium.

The celebration aims to heighten public awareness and respect for IHL.

The IHL or Geneva Law is a set of rules which place restrictions on the use of weapons and methods of warfare. It protects people who are not or no longer, participating in hostilities such as the wounded combatants, shipwrecked members at sea, prisoners of war and civilians.

Other activities for the IHL Month in other PRC chapters include Run and Walk for Humanity, Ride for Red: Bike for Humanity, youth camp, essay writing contest, music video and poster-making competition depicting concepts on IHL and series of information dissemination sessions in universities, government agencies and various private and socio-civic organizations.
