Villar To Grace Sapian Fiesta
She and Capiz governor Victor Tanco will be the guest speakers in the opening salvo and will inaugurate the P4-million 12 newly completed stalls in the town’s public market, said Sapian Mayor Arturo “Turic” Orosco Sr.
Villar, the mayor said, will hold a press conference in his residence. The former congresswoman eyes running for senator in the mid-term election next year.
Also, famous couturier Ben Perales will hold a modeling show during the festival.
This year’s Tilibyugan Festival, which started yesterday and will end on July 26, is being held in honor of the town’s patron saint, St. Anne.
Tibyug is a local term that means “to lift/hold up.”
The festival is said to be the grandest fiesta in the region in honor of St. Anne every July, her feast month, of each year.
Starting in 1995, it is also a celebration of the town’s bountiful tahong (mussel) harvest.
A food festival in line with the feast started yesterday.
Today, the festival’s opening salvo will be held, followed by a civic parade, the opening of the Agri-Aqua Trade Fair, street dancing, food festival, and the Sangguniang Kabataan night with the fashion show of Perales.
Various laro ng lahi and the Barangay Night will be held tomorrow.
On July 25, there will be a procession and a tahong cooking contest.
A thanksgiving Mass, gay marathon and boxing competitions, and a fireworks display will cap the celebration on the 26th.
