Roxas City Sets AIDS Candlelight Memorial PDF Print E-mail
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (May 16)-– A sundown prayer and candlelighting at the public plaza will highlight this year’s International AIDS Candlelight Memorial here on May 25.
City Health Education and Promotions Officer Fe Salgado said that a preparatory meeting was conducted last May 14 with the officers and members of the province’s gay group Capiz Shells, Club Owners Association and commercial sex workers to finalize the activities for the observance with the theme “Promoting Health and Dignity Together.”

The activity will kicked off with a motorcade from the Roxas City Health Office (CHO) to the plaza for the program.

It is aimed to strengthen calls for effective responses to halt further spread of AIDS and observed to remember those who died of the disease.

Salgado said that AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day is annually observed every third Sunday of May but was re-scheduled in the city due to conflicting schedules among the participants and local health authorities.

Started in 1983, the Day is considered the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness by over 1,200 community organizations in over a hundred countries.
