Written by Vincent Bigcas
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (May 14) -- An early morning walk-for-a-cause will be spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) – Capiz on May 30 in view of the Ocean Month celebration.
Nolan Molina, chief of the Protected Areas Wildlife and Coastal Zone and Management Services (PAWCZMS) of PENRO – Capiz, said that the activity aims to raise donations to support the pre-identified fisherfolk association in the city.

“Proceeds from the walk will be turned over to the beneficiary during a program after the walk,” Molina stressed, adding that participants are encouraged to bring and display placards, banners and streamers with slogan on the celebration’s theme “Buhay Dagat, Buhay Natin!”

The actual walk will start at the Provincial Park in Barangay Tiza and will end at the People’s Park in Barangay Baybay here.

Participants will include employees, officials and representatives of national government agencies, local government units, business sector and non-government as well as socio civic organizations.

During the program, top local officials will give their respective messages for the celebration.

In 1999, the month of May has been declared as the “Month of the Ocean” in the Philippines through Presidential Proclamation No. 57 issued by President Joseph Estrada.
