DOLE Earmarks P2-M For Informal Sector In Capiz PDF Print E-mail
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (Mar 01) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Western Visayas has earmarked more than P2 million to provide livelihood projects in Capiz this year.
Regional director Ponciano M. Ligutom said that the assistance will come in the form of livelihood starter kits, which will be made available to informal workers like farmers and fisherfolks, youth and persons with disabilities (PDWs), among others.

In 2011, the DOLE released 100 sets of welding kits for the province in December which benefited 100 graduates of Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) from the Mobile Technology School (MTS) of Capiz State University (CapSU) – Roxas City main campus.

The DOLE official, who was in Capiz last Feb. 23 for a consultative dialogue with program partners, also committed to promote local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas as investment areas.

“With more investments, more jobs will be created and we do that by promoting industrial peace, providing employment facilitation and helping the LGUs in promoting the welfare of their workers,” Ligutom said.

DOLE will also strengthen the Public Employment Service Offices and networks of guidance counsellors in the region to facilitate employment of jobseekers and resolve job mismatch, respectively. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
