ROXAS CITY, Capiz, (Feb. 27) -- Top officials of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) urged the media to take an active role in the government’s tax campaign.
Regional Director lawyer Romulo Aguila, Jr. said, during the press conference held in Capiz last February 23, that the media in Capiz can help a lot in educating and informing the taxpayers here about their obligation in paying the exact taxes.

Aguila led the caravan from Passi City to the province of Capiz as a kick-off activity of the tax campaign in the province here.

He stressed that they will be moving around the provinces in Panay Island, namely Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique, to advocate to the public about paying their taxes which will help the government in bringing along development and progress that will build the country.
Aguila stressed that their campaign is anchored on the slogan “I love Philippines, I pay taxes,” to exhort the public to do their share of paying their taxes for the love and future of the country.

He also said that they need the help of the media in reaching the P6.2 billion collection goal of their agency in the region for 2012 which is 20 percent higher than their revenue collection goal last year.

For Capiz alone, the Revenue District Office here is mandated to collect P681 million in revenues for the current year which is significantly higher than the P578.07 million collection goal in 2011.

On the other hand, Aguila also revealed that the government is firm in its campaign against tax evaders, particularly through its Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program, Oplan Kandado, Tax Verification Drive and compliance with the agency’s Citizen’s Charter that reduces bureaucratic red tape, preventing graft and corruption and delivery of efficient public service.
Meanwhile, Capiz Revenue District Officer Gil Tabanda expressed gratitude to the Capiz media for helping them in realizing the revenue collection goal last year through massive information and education drive.

Tabanda likewise congratulated them for taking active part and vigilance in the campaign against tax evaders that resulted to the temporary closure of a business establishment in Roxas City last year through its Oplan Kandado program. (JSC/JBG-PIA6 Capiz)
