The 604th PCGA was among the finalist for the Kalasag private volunteer group category, according to OCD Focal Person for Capiz Ana Gangoy.
The award was received by 604th PCGA Operations Officer LTJG Nestor Gonzales from OCD 6 Director Rosario Cabrera.
Gonzales attributed the award to the squadron’s accomplishments and strong partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard – Roxas City Station.
In 2010, the auxiliaries were also instrumental in the rescue of five persons onboard capsized a speedboat during the “Sinadya sa Halaran” Jet Ski competition.
The 604th PCGA is led by its squadron commander Lt. Commander Hide Rabino. It has 18 officers and about 38 enlisted men.
During the Kalasag awarding, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) of Sapi-an in Capiz also won second place for the 4th to 6th class municipalities category.
The town’s award was attributed by Lani Arnz Caberte, Municipal Civil Defense Risk Reduction coordinator of Sapi-an, to MDRRMC’s creation of a Fire Disaster and Emergency (FIDE) Unit.
The OCD's Kalasag award aims to recognize outstanding performance of LGUs, private/volunteer organizations, local, national and international NGOs, donor agencies, and the communities in implementing disaster risk management projects and activities, and providing humanitarian response and aid to affected communities.
