ROXAS CITY, Capiz (Oct. 25) -- Various products of the Ati and Panay Bukidnon tribes from the towns of Tapaz, Jamindan and Dumarao will be on sale from Oct. 25 to 28 at the Indigenous People’s (IP) village at the Villareal Stadium here.
The “IP Products Sale” activity is being held as part of this year’s IP Month celebration with the theme “Paghabi ng Ating Pagkakatulad Tungo sa Kapayapaan” (Interweaving Our Commonalities Towards Peace).
Alphonsus Tesoro, provincial tourism and cultural affairs offficer of Capiz, said that the IPs will be selling embroidered clothing, bags, mats, wallets, wrist as well as head bands, necklace and other accessories.
“We want to continue celebrating IPs arts and ways of life, discussing important issues and making more people aware of the richness and importance of indigenous cultures,” said Tesoro.
He added that a series of cultural performances from Oct. 25 to 28 and a forum on “Our IP Heritage and Its Relevance to the Global World” have been set for the local observance of IP Month.
In 2009, the celebration brought together in Capiz representatives of 110 ethno-linguistic groups of which 15 major cultural communities featured their traditional houses, cultural resources, practices/rituals, chants, music, songs and dances, stories, traditional arts and crafts and indigenous games.
The celebration is in consonance with Presidential Proclamation 1906 declaring October as National IPs’ Month. (JCM/AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
