POPCOM To Document Capizí School-Based Teen Center PDF Print E-mail
Provincial Population – Capiz OIC Provincial Population Officer Yolanda E. Francisco said the team will get footages, interview students, parents, concerned local officials and project implementers during the three-day schedule.

The province has about 52 school-based teen centers since the establishment of a Teen Zone in the Capiz State University (CAPSU) – Bailan, Pontevedra town campus in 2003.

The team will visit Teen Zone, “Rumbuhan” teen center in CAPSU – Buri-as, Mambusao campus and teen centers at Ivisan and Sapian National High Schools to document the impact of the project.

The project was conceptualized in Capiz during the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA)’ Reproductive Health (RH) implementation to improve awareness and knowledge of adolescents on RH issues and concerns and help curb teenage pregnancies, substance abuse and negative peer influence.

It was sustained by the Capiz provincial government upon the termination of UNFPA assistance.

Each teen center is equipped with a personal computer, audio-video equipment, game boards, musical instruments, and IEC materials on ARH, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), sexuality and related learning resource materials.

The adolescent friendly center is managed by peer educators and information providers trained in extending services like counseling, focused-group discussion, indoor activities like board games, musical instrument playing and video presentation on topics related to ARH, HIV/AIDS and prohibited drugs.
