Capiz To Host 3 Big National Events
ROXAS City (Sept 29) — This October, Capiz will host three big national events which are expected to boost and promote its tourism and drive its economic development.
Alphonsus Tesoro, provincial tourism officer, said all are set for the 12th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP).
One of the biggest annual gatherings of tourism stakeholders in the country, the ATOP national conference will be held on October 3–6 at the Capiz Gym.
About 1,000 persons including government officials from provinces in the country are expected to attend.
Capiz will also host the 19th National Convention on School of Tomorrow Philippines on October 16–21.
A Lifeline International-spearheaded event, the convention is expected to be attended by some 1,000 persons.
The province will also host the 16th Philippine Sports Commission-University Games (UniGames) on October 22–29.
Some 2,000 athletes, coaches, trainers and sports coordinators and officials from about 50 public and private colleges and universities in the country are expected to participate in the event, Msgr. Vicente Hilata, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC) college rector, said.
In fact, hotels and lodging houses in this city have already been fully-booked due to the influx of the attendees, according to Hilata.
Tesoro said the events will not only benefit resorts, hotels and restaurants but also tricycle drivers and operators and other small businesses.
In support of the events, the city government will hold a "seafood festival" at the public plaza to provide entertainment and gastronomic delight to visitors, according to Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino.
Gov. Victor Tanco said the provincial government will also give its share in support of the activities.
