Coastal Cleanup In Capiz On Sept. 17
ROXAS City (Sept 15)— A morning coastal cleanup at Baybay beach will mark the observance of this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day on September 17 in Capiz.
The beach, about three kilometers from the city proper and stretches from Brgy. Culasi to Punta Cogon, boasts of its brown sand shoreline.
Nonilon Molina, head of the Coastal and Marine Management Unit of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, said students, residents and other partner agencies and private groups will participate in the activity.
The activity will also be in collaboration with Petron Brgy. Culasi, Roxas City Depot.
“Waste materials like plastic bags, bottles and other garbage debris will be collected during the clean up,” said Molina.
Presidential Proclamation No. 470 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared every third Saturday of September as ICC Day.
The event encourages communities to clean-up, fix and conserve the environment as the country’s contribution to the worldwide environmental preservation efforts.
The theme of this year’s ICC Day is “Trash-Free Seas.”
