ROXAS CITY, Capiz, June 12 (PIA) -- Capicenos joined together to celebrate the country’s 113th year of independence as they thanked those who have been instrumental in achieving the independence that every Filipino now enjoys.
As part of thanksgiving and appreciation, many local government units conducted a parade as well as offered a thanksgiving mass in their respective towns which were attended by local and national government officials and employees and representatives of different private and civic groups.
Apart from the usual flag-raising and wreath-laying activities, the local governments also initiated tree planting activities.
In Mambusao town conducted a quiz bee highlighting the different heroic deeds of the Filipinos for the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Cuartero town mayor Roger Flores said that every Filipino must be thankful for the heroic deeds of fellow Filipinos, particularly for giving up their lives so that everyone will have liberty and freedom.
Flores said that the progress of their town now is also the result of the hard work and unity of the people.
The independence day celebration in Cuartero has been part of its 10-day activities for their town fiesta tomorrow, June 13, in honor of their Patron San Antonio de Padua.
Flores said that their independence day celebration is also a gathering of all their municipal officials and employees as well as barangay officials from their 22 barangays, faculty and staff of the Department of Education in said district, and all other stakeholders.
