ROXAS CITY (May 23)– Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco personally welcomed Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman who visited the province last May 18, 2011 for the ceremonial distribution of the Social Pension for indigent senior citizens conducted at the Hall of Governors, Provincial Capitol here.
The said program gives priority to indigent older persons who are 77 years old and above and are frail, sick, disabled, not receiving any pension, has no permanent source of income, or regular support from families or relatives.
Each recipient will receive P 500 monthly which will be released quarterly every year. A total amount of P 783, 000 was distributed to each Municipal Government Units for transfer to 522 beneficiaries in the province, identified through National Household Targeting System.
“We hope that this will help them with their basic needs, such as food and medicine, among others,” Sec. Soliman said.
On the other hand Gov. Tanco extended his gratitude to Sec. Soliman for the programs and initiatives that the DSWD extended to the province of Capiz.
“Our senior citizens have contributed for the progress of our community, it is fitting for us to help them in times that they are in need,” Gov. Tanco added.
The said program for the elderly is provided under Republic Act No. 9994 or the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
