Capiz PHO Sets Food Fortified Exhibit PDF Print E-mail
Executive Order (EO) No. 382 mandates the nationwide observance of the Day every Nov. 7.

"The exhibit aims to create public awareness among onlookers to look for the fortified food products whenever they buy food especially for the children," said PHO Nutritionist Divina Bigcas.

A motorcade along the city's major thoroughfares that will be followed by a program at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center (DRCC) will kick off the day-long activity.

Roxas City mayor Alan Celino has been invited to grace the program.

The Food Fortification program is the government's response to the micronutrient deficiencies which have persisted as a public health problem affecting a significant proportion of the population.

The Department of Health said that Food Fortification is the addition of Sangkap Pinoy or micronutrients such as Vitamin A, Iron and/or Iodine to food, whether or not they are normally contained in the food, for the purpose of preventing or correcting a demonstrated deficiency with one or more nutrients in the population or specific population groups.

Sangkap Pinoy or micronutrients are vitamins and minerals required by the body in very small quantities. These are essential in maintaining a strong, healthy and active body; sharp mind; and for women to bear healthy children. (PIA)
