Capiz Kicks Off Statistics Month Celebration PDF Print E-mail
Different national government agencies, schools as well as other civic organizations in the province will unite for the 21st National Statistics Month (NSM) in Capiz, says Assistant Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator and NSM Coordinator Stephen Bediones.

Bediones disclosed that this year's activity will kick off with a motorcade today, October 12, around the major streets in Roxas City.

"This will also be followed by the opening of the Statistical Exhibits at the lobby of the provincial capitol building which will run until October 22," he said.

Bediones added that the 19th Philippine Statistics Quiz will also be conducted by the National Statistics Office here on October 27 which will also signal the culmination activity of said celebration here.

The National Statistics Month was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, which declares the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month.

The celebration aims to promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, and elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

This year's celebration is anchored on the theme "Towards a Philippine Statistical System Responsive to emerging National and Global Challenges." (PIA)
