Capiz Disaster Council Gets New Center PDF Print E-mail
The putting up of the new office coincides with the change in name of Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) into PDRRMC as mandated in Republic Act 10121 otherwise known as Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

The new disaster operation center stemmed from then a PDCC proposal that was presented to Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco during the launching and first meeting of the Capiz People's Congress last November 2009.

Recently, Tanco has also appointed former Roxas City Police Station (RCPS) chief Retired PNP Chief Inspector Jose Daradar as the Council's new Action Officer.

Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Provincial Civil Defense Officer Ana Gangoy said that the center will be provided with basic facilities by the provincial government to effectively and efficiently carry out its mandate of setting the direction, development, implementation and coordination of disaster risk management programs in the province.

RA 10121 aims to strengthen the country's institutional capacity for disaster risk reduction and management and building resilience of local communities to disasters including impacts of climate change.

It is primarily intended to institutionalize disaster risk management at all levels of government to effectively cope with forthcoming calamities. (PIA)
