The drill was observed at Capiz National High School, Capiz State University (CAPSU) -Dayao, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Learning Center and Filamer Christian College's (FCC) elementary and high school campuses.

"There will be another earthquake drill on June 23 at the Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion (CPC) -Main building," said Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs) Provincial Head Ramil B. Atando.

The earthquake drill is part of the nationwide quarterly earthquake readiness exercise to raise awareness on the benefits of dealing with hazards and risks by focusing on disaster prevention and mitigation strategies.

Earlier, Atando said that the province has only minor earthquake generators called as "thrust fault" which are not even charted in the PHIVOLCS earthquake generators map.

He added, however, that earthquake drills in schools are important because the students are most vulnerable to the tremor due to lack of awareness and preparedness.

The province's nearest earthquake generators are the Tablas and West Panay faults, active faults in the island of Panay. (PIA)
