Western Visayas To Have PCOS Machines 1st Week of May PDF Print E-mail
The region is set to receive more than 6,000 units of the poll automation machine corresponding to the number of its clustered precincts.

Based on records of the office, there are 6,713 clustered precincts in the region, of which 798 are in Aklan, 656 in Antique, 675 in Capiz, 142 in Guimaras, 2,392 in Iloilo, and 2,050 in Negros Occidental.

The COMELEC regional office headed by lawyer Ray Rene Buac said the machines will be tested on May 7 to ensure that they would function properly on election day.

The machines, which will be delivered to the region accompanied by a representative of the manufacturer/supplier firm, will be brought directly to various polling precincts.

The machines will be used in the first-ever automated elections in the country.

COMELEC said the machines would be able to operate even in areas without power supply because each PCOS machine is equipped with a battery pack and a spare battery that will last for 32 hours. The casting of votes will only last for 12 hours.

The COMELEC regional office also disclosed that members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) numbering 12,000 who will serve during the elections have been trained on the use of the PCOS machines.

Based on COMELEC records, Western Visayas has 3.9 million registered voters in 15 cities, 118 municipalities, and 4,061 barangays.
