BIR Capiz Nets P390M Revenue PDF Print E-mail
Capiz Bureau of Internal Revenue Information Officer Ma. Gracia Balgos disclosed that in 2009, their office here was able to rake in a total of P390,264,834.69.

Nevertheless, Balgos said that there was a shortfall in the revenue collection here last year, noting that the 2009 target of the RDO 72 based in Roxas City was P488.356 million.  She attributed the revenue collection shortfall to the economic crisis that had shaken not only Capiz but even very progressive areas in the country and even globally.

Balgos noted that through their tax mapping activities, they found out that many businesses have closed while their business registration are still undergoing processing.  She added that most businesses that thrived in the province are lending institutions and pawnshops.

On the other hand, BIR Commissioner Joel Tan-Torres disclosed that said agency "will most likely" meet its full year 2009 target of P742 billion, in large part because of the P61.5 billion collected in December.

Since the total BIR collection accounts for more than 60 percent of the country's revenues, the budget deficit, or the difference between government revenues and expenditures, could be less than P300 billion.

With no new revenue-generating taxes expected in the next semester of 2010, the BIR commissioner told Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita that he will try to meet his P830 billion target through improved collections.

Part of the initiatives to enhance tax collection include invigorating the "Run After Tax Evaders" (RATE) program, integrated approach in administering the country's large tax payers program, close monitoring of recently-enacted tax-reducing measures and several incentives programs, and focus on the collection of big ticket items.
